Some decisions are not made with numbers, but with the heart. And this is one of them.
Since 2010, the 10K distance has been a gateway into our race. A way to bring the marathon experience closer to thousands of people: companions, new runners, and those who wanted to feel, for the first time, the excitement of Madrid’s streets filled with energy, music, and personal achievement.
For 16 years, the 10K has been part of our story. And above all, part of your story.
Today, with great respect — and a touch of nostalgia — we feel the time has come to close this chapter.
Starting with the 2027 edition, the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid will feature only two distances: Marathon and Half Marathon.
This decision is based on several factors that we want to share with full transparency:
Madrid is the soul of our race. And precisely out of love and respect for the city, we must adapt to its noise regulations. The inability to offer musical entertainment during the first stretch of the 10K (a key element of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series concept) prevents us from guaranteeing the experience these runners deserve.
At the same time, the event has experienced extraordinary growth in recent years.
Demand for marathon and half marathon entries significantly exceeds available capacity, and our priority is to continue growing these distances while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and experience.
To achieve this, it is necessary to reorganize how the event space is used.
We know the 10K is a highly valued and much-loved distance, and Madrid offers excellent races that provide outstanding experiences, such as the Madrid Vintage Run by TotalEnergies or the Ibercaja Madrid corre por Madrid, among others. But we are also aware of something truly special:
in Madrid, the marathon is unique.
Now more than ever, we want to highlight that uniqueness.
Being part of the European Marathon Classics drives us to continue elevating the marathon distance, to establish Madrid as an international benchmark, and to offer an unforgettable experience to those who take on the 42.195 kilometers.
